An IP security camera uses your home’s internet connection to transmit the video that it captures over the air so that you can see the footage while you are not at home. Remote video surveillance is becoming easier and easier to do. It can be simple and convenient, for both homeowners and businesses to use readily available IP cameras to watch over any place they want to.
With an IP security camera, you can watch the video footage from any web browser, as well as record the scene to a remote computer for later viewing, or for a backup. It’s becoming common practice to easily use remote video surveillance cameras. Homeowners and businesses are finding it convenient and cost effective to use IP cameras to monitor locations that are important to them.
How An IP Security Camera Works
Essentially, along with the camera’s video electronics, there is also circuitry that allows the camera to transmit it’s video over the internet, essentially as it’s own web site. Anyone with the URL of the camera, and the proper login credentials, can watch the video. There is an option in almost every IP Security Camera that enables sending the imagery over a private network so that only you can view the footage and not anyone else. Otherwise, your video stream could be found and viewed by anyone on the internet who knows the ip address of the camera. Probably not what you intended if you are setting this up as a security camera!
A Few Uses of an IP Security Camera
If you are away from your house for longer periods of time, there is every chance that during a break-in the thieves may steal your computer and take away all of the footage that the camera had captured against them. With an IP security camera, which is constantly connected to the internet, you can record the video on a remote computer (as well as watch it live). The advantage being that you could have the stored video in a safe place, where you could watch it later, and even see the actions of the persons doing the robbing, and they would have no way to get to that footage.
This way you still have solid video evidence to use against the thieves when they are caught.
Live footage from the IP Security Camera can also be sent to multiple family members at a time which can be a real convenience at times. For example if there is a babysitter at home and the parents are away, you can let the parents and even the grandparents of the child to keep an eye on the house to check if any untoward activity is going on such as the babysitter inviting unwanted people to your residence.
What Could You Do With An IP Security Camera In Your Security System?
Along with wired IP security cameras, there are wireless versions as well. The wired camera plugs in to any standard network router, while the wireless one will communicate with any common wireless router. These are a few of the ways that an IP security camera can be a great use to you.
